This course is the perfect follow on to the ‘Get That Novel Started’ course, where students can continue the momentum now built as they strive towards the completion of their first draft.
Again, suitable for writers with projects underway or those looking for a fresh injection of inspiration, and is applicable for all genres and those looking to develop short stories.
Course Outline: In a warm, fun, safe and inspiring environment amongst fellow creatives, you will continue to put into practice the lessons learnt in the ‘Get That Novel Started’ course – character, structure, discipline, plot, theme, drama, the creation of ideas, point of view, location, editing, rewrites, delivery, the all-important strong, dramatic and satisfying conclusion – with the focus being on the development of your project towards you having a solid and complete first draft.
Honing your skills as you go, you will begin to produce structured blocks of work, sharing it with your fellow students to further-develop your story’s framework and your own critiquing abilities.
As before, there will be in-class exercises to help keep your writing fresh and you aware of alternative writing techniques, inspiring you to produce the very best work you can. Particular attention will be paid to the overall delivery of your work e.g., pace, descriptions, locations, the ability to hold the reader’s attention as compellingly as possible, the introduction of plot twists to keep the reader guessing and turning those pages, your choice of words, and of course, your prose to contain a delightful mix of narrative and
And over the six weeks, you will gain an insight into how to get your work published, the criteria a literary agent will be looking for, and the first steps you should be taking to create awareness of your wonderful novel, and how to market it.
At the end of the course, you will be well on the way to having a solid first draft, with the finish line now clearly in sight.
Are there any course requirements? Yes, you’ll need basic written English skills, and access to the internet for the exchange of homework and critique.
Is previous creative writing experience required? Yes - a project that is underway.*
