Description: This creative writing course is suitable for beginners or writers looking for a fresh injection of inspiration, and is perfect for all genres and those wishing to write short stories.
Course outline: Via the writing exercises and weekly subjects, you will revisit the key elements of the creative process and the necessary ingredients – character, structure, plot, theme, drama, the creation of ideas, point of view, location and so much more.
Each week, we begin with fun writing exercises to practice the above-mentioned aspects. Then, we will focus on a particular subject, as detailed below:
Week 1 - Structure: the key phases of a story (the start, middle and end) and the job each should do, allowing us to build the appropriate rising drama, tension and jeopardy, plus, to layer in the key aspects the reader will need to be utterly hooked..
Week 2 - Character: the development of your protagonist via furthering their backstory, physical description, likes and dislikes etc. Such a vital aspect. Our characters are the vehicles via which the stories are told, and establishing a bond/connection/understanding between them and our reader is paramount.
Week 3 - Dialogue: a hugely important part of writing, for it is via this our readers really get to know our characters. Plus, as the writer, we can convey emotions, mannerisms, action, movement and so much more.
Week 4 - Location: an absolutely key part of our writing, for, of course, everything happens somewhere. And locations are the canvas upon which our stories are told. Get this aspect right and our readers cannot help but be drawn into the worlds/situations/emotions we are creating.
These ‘Novel Booster’ courses are great fun, inspiring and beneficial via the group experience. And there’s nothing like being in the company of fellow creatives to really take our story projects to the next level.
